It’s another technology above and beyond. As a physician, when you’re coming to be a radiologist for example or a cardiologist, you look at what kind of MRI you have, what kind of CTs, what kind of equipment you will use. They’re training on state-of the-art equipment at academic institutions and don’t want to settle for anything less when they come to a private practice.
At Alegent Health we’re really interested in innovation. We have a senior vice president who’s in charge of innovation for our health system. We’re always looking at new technologies, ways to improve the workflow for all of our workers, to improve employee satisfaction and employee engagement. These are the kind of tools that will help us do that.
We’re also finding that even though we’re becoming more efficient, the level of documentation is increasing. When we talk about how many lines we’ve done for an HNP (herniated nucleus pulposus) in consult, the number of lines in an HNP is increasing. We’re at about twenty percent over last year. I’m hoping that’s because we’re doing better documentation, or our physicians are; to provide better patient care. There’s no other reason for HNPs and consults to increase in volume, other than that.
